After staying at The Dana in 2005 we were very happy to find a great offer for High Season this year, so we canceled an already booked Hotel and switched to The Dana.
In 2005 we were very satisfied with the Hotel's service, but since our last stay a few things changed....The booking of our stay was already complicated, we first got two wrong confirmations, so we tried to contact the Hotel three times, but they were too busy and never came back to us! Like other guests we also were wondering about the parking fee they charge, which seems to be invented after 2005 (12 Dollars per day!!!). But we still were looking forward to our stay.
After our first night the housekeeping forgot to prepare our room, if this would have been happen once, we wouldn't mind, but this happened three times during our five days stay and we had to call the reception every time! Instead of an excuse we just got the info, that this is normal if there is a "Privacy please" sign outside or that the housekeeping will take care in the afternoon - unfortunately we removed the signs after 10 am and usually came back in the evening to our room. So for people who very appreciate cleaning on time we can't recommend The Dana.
Beside the Housekeeping the reception staff was also less friendly than 3 years before and because of the new invented "Pool parties" and "Cocktail Happy Hours" the other guests changed enormously, so for example we avoid the tropical Pool thanks to dizzy guests or awakened on our last night when a drunken guy were banging and slamming the door next to our room and screamed on his wife (?) to get excess.
As a result we will look for a another Hotel for our next San Diego stay.
