I go to one of the online sites where you bid on hotel rooms when I travel to NYC. I'm always *so* happy when my bids land me at the Millenium Hilton. I really can't believe it --I used to live in NY so feel odd staying in hotels there, and I consider myself more of a boutique hotel person than someone who frequents a big chain. But I'll say in all honesty the the bright, professional, competent and considerate Millenium staff treat you like it's a boutique hotel. Each time I've come in on the red eye from the west coast, the staff has suggested that I go freshen up in the spa and then store my luggage until my room is ready. That a.m. shower alone sets this place apart from others which (simply, reasonably) expect you to wait until check-in time. But I have also had splendid luck with my rooms at the Millenium --I'm always on a high floor, and the views over the Hudson or the Brooklyn Bridge are magic.

The hotel is also very close to nearly every subway line you would want to travel on, and it's walking distance to great restaurants and sweet parks. The WTC construction is ongoing, but noise has not been a problem when I've stayed at the hotel. Just in case, each room I've been in has carried a letter from the general manager explaining the construction plan. The letter comes with a set of earplugs (so far, I've used them on the plane and in other hotels!)

“Really nice hotel”

We stayed for 2 nights from June 28th to June 30th 2008. We booked a room on Hilton's website and chose not to pay the extra 30$ per night to have a hotel room on the 30th floor and up, yet when we checked in, we were given a room on the 54th floor facing Ground Xero. When we leaned out a bit, we could see the Statue of Liberty from our room. It was excellent!
We were not bothered by construction noise, even though they worked around the clock the two days we were there. The Subway was steps away from the entrance of the hotel, so it was very easy to get to all the tourist places on Manhattan. One block from the hotel there was a really nice restaurant that had the most delicious bagels. We would definitely stay at this hotel again, if we visit New York another time!

Stayed here in May for 4 Days. I emailed the Hotel before departing and they kindly upgraded us to a Suite on the top floor and also Champagne and Strawberries.
Great Location for Brooklyn walks and Century 21.
Didn't use many of the Hotel facilities as every possible taste is catered for in NYC.
Great Hotel we would deffo stay here again for the attractions of Lower Manhattan.
$75 for taxi from Hotel to Newark.

“No problems at the Millenium Hilton!”

Millenium Hilton

My husband and I stayed at the Millenium Hilton for our latest stay in NYC. I was hoping I wouldn't have problems with the WTC construction noise based on some of the comments here - I didn't know what to expect. Noise or no noise? Bothersome or not? We got a room on the 24th floor and didn't hear any bothersome noise. Yes, you could hear a "ping" every once in a while but during my stay through Monday I was never awaken or bothered by any of the noise. There was no construction Saturday or Sunday nights past midnight while I was there. The room itself was exactly what I expected based on pics from other users. The view was the same as seen in other pics as well. Our room was located very close to the elevators and if anything - that would have been the one thing I should have changed. I don't enjoy hearing that noise all night - loud people getting off of the elevator before quieting down because they realize they're not outside anymore. The room was very clean and tidy. The tv was a little quirky in my room. We couldn't just press Power on the remote control and have it turn on. We had to press Power then go to the tv and press the source button. I saw a post on here that complained about there not being any HD channels and thought that was just picky - BUT - the output on the tv was worse than what I'm used to from my regular non-HD digital cable. It was pretty fuzzy on most channels but we spent most of our time away from our room so we didn't really care! You don't go to NYC to watch TV!! Another problem with our room was the toilet - it didn't just FLUSH. We had to hold the handle down for the water to properly go down. The bathroom otherwise was clean...they have Crabtree and Evelyn products for your use but I didn't like the smell of them - too strong for me. I liked the showerhead but didn't feel good about the bathroom faucet because it didn't have any type of aeration-SO much water was being used every time it was turned on. The down pillows and comforter were 100% comfortable-loved them! Overall I enjoyed my time here from the prompt check in to claiming my bags from storage at check out. I enjoyed the location because it was near everything downtown that I didn't get to see the last time I was in NYC. The subway is really close by and a half block walk away. I have pics to share but can't find my transfer cable right now so I'll put them up later.

“What a view!”

We got the room through Hotwire for $196 a night and stayed two nights. When we arrived, the computerized reservation system was down and we had to sit in the lobby for awhile before we could check in. When it came back up, we were upgraded to an amazing room! The room was called a "corner king" on the 47th floor. When we walked into the room and looked out the windows that wrapped around two entire walls of the room, our jaws dropped. This was easily the nicest hotel we ever stayed in.

While we walked around lower Manhattan quite a bit during our two days there, we also spent substantial time looking out our windows! While reclining in bed, we had the greatest view of the Empire State Building, which was still lit up like a "rocket pop" from the 4th of July. To our right was the East River, with a great view of the Brooklyn, Manhattan, and Williamsburgh bridges. We could also see one of the waterfalls that are on display for the next couple of months. This one was under the Brooklyn Bridge. To the left was the Hudson River. Directly below our window was St. Paul's Church, which is where George Washington was on the day of his inauguration. (Don't miss walking through the church!) Across from the front of the hotel is the former World Trade Center site, with construction going on most days, all day and into the night. We got there on Saturday, and they knocked off the construction about 9PM, and didn't work on Sunday--so those are good days to stay there. They started right up again Monday morning and I know from talking to others that it is very noisy (hence the earplugs that come with the room). And the room--WOW! Just plush, classy, the most comfortable bed, down comforter and down pillows (plenty of them)! A flat screen LCD TV was at a slightly weird angle from the bed, but we didn't care, we spent all our time marveling at the view out the windows! No plastic ice buckets here, everything is stainless steel. There was a lid on the toilet, for some reason that's important to me. Most cheaper hotels don't have one. The service was great, everyone was friendly, the place was beautiful, and we would love to stay there again. Didn't use the pool or gym, or buy any food there (food and drink was way too expensive!). Still, I have to recommend this place to anyone who wants to traipse around the lower Manhattan/Battery Park/Greenwich Village/SoHo. Try Hotwire for booking. Perhaps it would be wise to bring a "white noise machine" to drown out the construction noise until the construction is finished.

There's a great deli a block away called the Stage Deli. Go there for breakfast! It's great, and a bargain!
