Just returned from a fantastic break in New York. A party of 11 of us aged from 14 to 80 stopped at the Belvedere Hotel. As mentioned in previous reviews the lifts were very slow but apart from that we had no complaints. The rooms were spacious and clean, staff friendly and helpful, location perfect. What more could you ask for?
We didn't eat in the hotel but had breakfast every morning at the 1950's style "Olympic Diner" (turn left out of the hotel entrance then left again onto 8th Ave - 2min walk). It cost approx $7 for tea, juice and pancakes/waffles.
We bought 48hr passes for the hop on, hop off open top bus tour. At $49 well worth it. Stops close to hotel on 8th Ave. Some guides were much better than others.
Two most memorable sights were turning into Times Square for the first time and the view from the Empire State Building, both breathtaking.
If you get chance would suggest trying BB Kings on 42nd St. to see the Harlem Gospel Choir,($27) they put X-Factor contestants to shame!
Also visit the revolving "View" at the top of the Marriott Hotel Times Square for drinks in the evening. Adults only after 9pm.
Those wanting bargins should take a trip to Woodbury Common. It's $40 for the hour long bus trip from the Port Authority Bus Terminal.
Fantastic break, looking forward to returning.
