While this is certainly not the biggest or flashiest hotel in the world (or even Philadelphia for that matter), what puts the Four Seasons Philly over the top is the impeccable, indulgent service you receive from the minute you arrive until the minute you leave.
Arriving by car, I was swarmed by valets, bellhops and doormen before I had even come to a complete stop. Whisked inside the cool, elegant lobby down a hall to the decadently wood-panelled reception desk, I believe my check-in took about all of one minute, and everything was correct, executive suite with king bed, smoking. I know everyone else is always complaining about getting a smoking room or how hotels smell of smoke, but as a smoker, believe me, nowadays it is a refreshing rarity to get the smoking room you requested on the first shot without a hassle!
All the food, whether room service or in the cafe downstairs, was the best of whatever you were eating that you'd ever had in your life! Room service was always quick, correct and courteous to a fault, and my wife still remarks over how the phone said "touch" instead of "dial" for extentions for room service, concierge, etc...there aren't even ice machines, to get your ice bucket filled, "touch" a button and in seconds a knock at the door and someone is off and back in a few with a fresh bucket of ice for you.
The spa, while small, provided excellent service (I had a foot massage, my wife had a facial).
The rooms, while nothing spectacular, were spacious and clean. I did feel however that the bathroom could have been larger and the view better. My only complaint would be this is a spread out low-rise hotel (only 8 floors); in such a large city, I would prefer a taller hotel both for the views and to be further removed from the streets of Philadelphia, which can be very noisy at times!
Overall, the premiere choice if you want to be coddled discreetly in an atmosphere of understated elegance!
