We had stayed at this hotel before when it was under another brand and it was nice then. After they became a member of the Hilton family they really did it up right. When we checked in, the cookies that they give is a real nice touch, and the have the ingredients on the back of the little bag that the cookie comes in. The rooms are nice and big and we really enjoyed our stay, although we didn't get a chance to get to the Fitness Center (maybe next time!). When we were checking out, my husband suffered a medical emergency and when we asked the front desk to call 911, not only did they do that, the head housekeeper came up to our room (she came up the stairs instead of waiting for the elevator!) to stay with my husband while we were waiting for the ambulance to arrive. The front desk people went above and beyond the call of duty with all of the excitement and confusion; when I left one of our suitcases in the room, they retreved it and kept it behind the front desk until I was able to return and get it, and he is recovering as I write this review. My husband and I recommend this hotel to anyone visiting the Atlanta area and we hope to return ourselves.

“Way to go Doubletree!”

I would like to preface this review by saying I was a little skeptical of this property when making our reservation because of previous reviews. I really only booked it because of the special rate we were getting that included two citypass books that gave us access to several attractions around Atlanta. That being said, I am so glad I chose to book the Doubletree!

First of, parking was plentiful, free, and a breeze. The hotel is setup in sort of a triangle shape and thus most spots are not far from the lobby. We were greeted by the front desk staff quickly even before we arrived at the desk. Check in was quick and friendly. After we got our keys I inquired about the citypass books and got kind of blank stares from both. I produced a printout of my confirmation from the doubletree website that explained the package. One started calling a supervisor and rather than have us both stand there with luggage in hand waiting, the other lady suggested we go and make ourselves comfortable in the room and she would be up shortly with our city passes after they found out how to get them for us. Go Doubletree! That is the way to train desk staff!

The lobby and elevator were recently refurbished and very nice. The elevator was quick to the 5th floor with little waiting. The halls were ok. Nothing wrong there, maybe a little old, but not dirty or disgusting as another reviewer said before. The room was very very nice! Brand new carpet, wall paper, granite counters in the bathroom. New wood louver doors on the closet, new couch and matching chairs. The desk chair was very comfortable for working. The bed was very comfortable with lots of pillows for sleeping. The bathroom was very clean although a little small for bigger people like me (6'2" tall). All in all a very nice updated clean room.

I will definitely return to the Doubletree if I ever get back to Atlanta.

“A nice hotel for the price”

I stayed at this Doubletree with my wife and in-laws on a trip to visit family in Atlanta. The hotel is rather straight-forward. The hallways and elevators are rather old but there have been so nice upgrades made to the lobby area and rooms.

The rooms themselves were great for what we were paying ($98 a night). The bed was large and comfortable, the room was spacious, the bathroom was clean and the water pressure/temperature was just fine. Add to that free high-speed internet access and warm cookies every night (the receptionist told me they were 600 calories each!!!) and it made for a very enjoyable base.

Granted it's nothing spectacular, but it's exactly what I would expect and would stay there again.

On a side note, we stayed here Christmas eve and on Christmas morning all of the staff were very kind and cheerful. They even offered free continental breakfast since the restaurant was closed which I thought was very considerate.

If you do stay here, you MUST go to the Varsity Jr. located near by if you can't make it to the original down-town. It may be horrible for you but the onion rings are to die for.

“Just ok”

I have usually had a good track record with Doubletree Hotels, this one was somewhat disappointing. I went there because I had business at Emory University which is about 5 miles away.

It was a little run down, especially the hallways, and there was a strange smell. The room was better, comfortable bedding, highspeed internet. However the tub did not appear to be cleaned, which is a huge problem for me. There was a shoeprint in it, as if someone stepped in the tub with dirty sneakers on, and there was also hair in the tub. The linens were clean and of nice quality.

The rug seemed nice and clean. The room had a fridge and microwave in it, always a plus. it is right behind a diner, but I would not recommend eating there since it too is run down. The food was good, but the restaurant was not clean.

The cookies were fantastic and a nice treat after a bad airport experience (lost suitcase). I did not eat at the restaurant, it had limited hours that did not work with my schedule.

The staff was ok, just ok.

I am sorry to say that this stay at the Doubletree has destroyed my opinion of the Hilton chain. This hotel is quite possibly the world's worst hotel - trust me, I've stayed in many. I'd been giving Hilton properties a shot after years of Marriott and Starwood stays. A quick summary of the horrid state of this hotel:
a) Check in agent, Alvin, could not figure out the system, and could not quickly confirm our reservation adequately, nor the one for our company president.
b) Immediately upon checking into room, noticed (1) no doors on closet, (2) no valet stand for baggage, (3) toilet required holding of handle to flush, (4) dirty remains from last guest in coffee maker, and (5) 100% non-working television.
I complained about all of these items and asked to be moved, where Alvin told me, "sorry no rooms, have to move you tomorrow", which I told him was fine as soon as the remaining items were rectified and quickly (as it was nearing 10 pm). They were only able to fix the TV in the short time I alloted. However, Alvin promised a new room for the remainder of the stay.
Day 2: Checked back in - toilet is running in full force, probably since the maid had arrived that morning. Could not stop from running without lifting the lid and forcing the flapper down.
Called the front desk and was told, "sorry, can't move you - no rooms left". Asked for a manager, and got a supervisor, Tanvir Alam. Mr. Alam told me repeatedly, "sorry if you'd have asked for a room before we could have moved you but we're full now", (i.e. tough S*IT). Explained that Alvin had promised to relocate me, but was told he did not leave a note in the log and that I was screwed. Nice place - even though ALL hotels carry several rooms unoccupied, and despite my request, at first nicely, then more forcefully, I was stuck living in a really terrible room. You ought to be ashamed of yourselves, Hilton. I will do everything in my power to never again stay in one of your hotels. You have lost a customer, Hilton.
