“Mariott Marquis. Great Hotel in Downtown Atlanta”

Marriott Marquis Atlanta

4 of 5 stars

Stayed here for one night in May during an Atlanta layover. Got an amazing rate via Priceline. Location is a short 15 minute drive from the airport.

The architecture inside the hotel is amazing. Designed by John Portman (also did the Westin Peachtree down the street), the atrium is over 450 ft high (thanks to the concierge for this information). The glass elevators allow a full overview of the hotel; scary at times as you near the top looking down.

Rooms are standard Marriott quality and were very clean. Views of the city were nice (see attached pictures).

The hotel is located a few blocks from CNN center, the Hard Rock Cafe, and is a short ride away from Turner Field.

Had a shrimp appetizer at the bar downstairs that was reasonably priced and delicious. The media room in the bar is amazing for sports fans that might be caught traveling during an important game.

The biggest drawback was the lack of onsite parking (your choices are the public garage across the street or valet). Also, there was a great deal of construction going on (probably completed by now). Regardless, this is a great property to stay at while visiting Atlanta.

“Very good stay at the Marriot Marquis”

Marriott Marquis Atlanta

4 of 5 stars
Chicago, Illinois

I got this hotel on Priceline for not a lot at all and after my stay I can safely say I hope I stay here everytime I visit Atlanta if possible.

At check in I requested a room with a view, as the person infront of me in the line successfully had, and they put me up on the 38th floor with a great southerly view which included Turner Field which was the main purpose of my trip. It was a pretty nice change from getting the "priceline" room that you get some places i.e. nextdoor to the elevator/ice machine/gym equipment. The room was very nice and a decent size with a very comfortable King bed.
Just an all around great hotel.

“Great Room And Service”

Marriott Marquis Atlanta

Sep 23, 2008

We stayed here on our wedding night. They really go all out for their customers. We had a bottle of champagne and chocolate dipped strawberries waiting for us that night. We had one of the suites and it was absolutely beautiful! The hotel was very clean and its located right in the middle of Downtown so it was very convenient for us. We walked there from our wedding venue!

“Rude And Careless”

Hotel is so big that bell people don't know co-workers. They are rude and careless.

Not prepare for a big group, security accused my son of something that he never did and not contact adult people at the room.

“Almost My Favorite”

Marriott Marquis Atlanta

Aug 28, 2008

The only reason I can’t give the Atlanta Marriott Marquis a “best” rating is the charge for internet access. Although I was aware of this charge when I made the reservation, I still can’t give any hotel an unconditional recommendation that charges me $15 to check my e-mail. I am also conservative with my ratings. Mathematically speaking, not every hotel can be above average.

Aside from the prior comment about the internet fees, I really liked this hotel. However, I should disclose to anyone reading this that I have Platinum Elite status at Marriott and had various upgrades including access to the concierge level lounge.

Although this hotel is now at least 20 years old, it has been well maintained and renovated. It appears to have new carpets and paint, the furniture and bathroom fixtures look almost new. All in all, it is a very attractive property with a 50 story atrium. Our room on 43rd floor had a nice view, the bed was comfortable, and we even had drawers to unpack our suitcases. The room size was only average as was the bathroom, however, it was comfortable for the two of us. Although the hotel has been recently renovated, it appears to still have the original televisions but they work and I don’t watch much televisin anyway. However, many of the other hotels in this class now have flat screen televisions.

The fitness center is very good for a hotel, almost health club status. The staff was very friendly and helpful. However, I wouldn’t recommend buying any drinks in the lobby bar, it cost me $17 (including tax and tip) for a gin martini. The concierge lounge was very nice although there was a charge for beer and wine. I had breakfast there each day and the evening hors d’oeuvres were good enough for dinner for two of the four nights. This hotel has a good downtown location and has an over the street covered walkway leading to Peachtree Center which includes a Marta stop and also various shops and restaurants. The Peachtree Center also has free wireless access if you're comfortable putting your personal information out over an open wireless connection.

Although I am not going to stop complaining about the lack of free internet access, I will probably stay here the next time I am in Atlanta.
