Living on Oahu's north shore,we like to stay the night in town every now and then.... get the "big city" buzz and no worries about driving home after an evening of fun and libations!..So we picked the Aqua Marina for its great price and location on the west side of Waikiki... easy to get in and out of without getting bogged down in central Waikiki traffic. Yet walking distance to some great reataurants and bars( Chart House overlooking the Yacht Harbor has the great food and one of the best bar scenes in Honolulu..)Reviews on this and other sites were a bit spotty...so we werent sure what we would get. First off the access is so easy ..and the entrance very pleasing to the eye..a long driveway with beautiful tropical plantings right iff of Ala Moana Blvd . Staff was very helpful and friendly... both Kika and Dominique most helpful...offered us an upgrade to an Ocean View room for a mere $20....welooked at the room and took it..... the view was all the way to Ewa! Ala Moana park, the Yacht Harbor, the ocean, and the city lights of Honolulu were all laid out at our feet.....
Room was fresh and clean with a kitchenette and a King bed .. table and cahirs and a sitting area..very comfy..bathroom a bit small and dated... but adequate. Had great night and an easy 2 block walk back from the Chart House. And a great sleep to boot. The Aqua Marina is a well sealed 40 story high rise set back form the street... so noise was not an issue.
Upon asking the desk staff about some of the less than stellar reviews... Kika explained that the hotel had ben undergoing renovations over the last year or so...and that as rooms were individually owned(its a condo hotel), it was aslow process to get the rooms themselves redone...she said the rooms were about half done... so be sure to ask for a renovated room when you book!
