ResortQuest Waikiki Beach Hotel

2 of 5 stars
Medical Lake, Washington
Nov 18, 2008

When we first checked in the person was very rude and not at all what we had been told to expect as far as being even somewhat friendly. This was a huge surprise for us. The rooms were VERY small but clean. Had an issue with all the noise from the Tiki bar. It sounded like a frat party between the music and noise of the other guests. We did get moved to a different floor first thing the next morning and that was much better. The breakfast crew was wonderful and very nice. Breakfast is from 6:30 to 8:30 only so no chance to sleep in if you want "breakfast on the beach" so to speak. The elevators were a big issue for everyone. Sometimes they worked....sometimes they had a mind of their own. Was sad to see all the homeless wondering around digging into garbage cans in downstairs lobby/Valet area. This is a nice place for the young looking to party crowd. Wouldn't recommend it for anyone who wants a quiet relaxing stay.

Thank you for choosing to stay with us at the ResortQuest Waikiki Beach Hotel and for taking the time to comment on your experience. We truly appreciate your comments, both positive and constructive, as they provide us with an opportunity to gauge our performance and improve where necessary.

We were very disappointed to note that the service you received upon check-in failed to meet your expectations. We have also taken note that you were inconvenienced by the noise from Tikis Grill and Bar and that you found our elevators to be problematic. Please accept our apologies and know that the respective hotel department heads have read this review.

On a positive note, we were pleased to note that our convenient location was a plus for you and that the staff at Breakfast on the Beach exceeded your service expectations.

Should your future travels include Waikiki, we would welcome another opportunity to serve you. Until that time we send our warmest..Aloha!

My boyfriend and I stayed at Resortquest Waikiki Beach Hotel for 3 nights in the beginning of our trip to Hawaii. We checked into our oceanview room and was very surprised by the very small size of the room. We went back down to the reception desk and luckily there were jr. suties available. We upgraded for a small charge and it was a much better size! Besides the location the best part of this hotel was definetely the bed! It was one of the most comfortable hotel beds I have ever slept in. Breakfast on the Beach was convenient, but the quality and variety were only average. By the third day, we were already tired of the breakfast selection and if we were staying longer would probably have found something else for breakfast. I did not care for the competing activity desks and would have prefered a concierge working for the hotel that could help us without being pushy and charging extra fees. Overall though, RQ Waikliki Beach Hotel did not dissapoint, but unlike Maui we will probably not be coming back to Oahu anytime soon.

Aloha! Thank you for choosing to stay with us at the ResortQuest Waikiki Beach Hotel.

We were pleased to note that you enjoyed your Junior Suite and that you were able to take full advantage of our convenient location. Furthermore, it’s great to see that you enjoyed the comfort of our customized Sealy “extra plush” mattresses.

We were disappointed to note that our Breakfast on the Beach failed to meet your expectations. Rest assured that our breakfast menu is under constant evaluation with the goal being providing out guests with the best possible quality and variety of food.

It should be noted that in addition to the services offered at the tour desks on property, our hotel Front Desk is available to answer any and all questions or concerns that may arise during your stay.

“Great for waikiki on the beach”

ResortQuest Waikiki Beach Hotel

Nov 9, 2008

A pretty good hotel for the price. Especially because it is right on (accross) from the beach.
My boyfriend and I stayed here for four nights at the begining of our trip. Neither of us had ever been to Hawaii prior.

The one absolute about this hotel was that the staff were very friendly and helpful.
Breakfast is included and bags are provided for you so you can pack it up and head over to the beach. Breakfast however, is only served until 830. So if you are not an early riser, you need a plan B.
If you are renting a car while on the island... you should know that the hotel charges you 20$ per night to use the underground parking. You can find parking on the street, but maybe not the safest.
The location of the hotel is great. You are at the more eastern side of the strip right next to the zoo, accross from the very busy beach and along "the strip", short bus or car ride to diamond head and close to many ABC stores etc.
The "strip" area in Hawaii was not my favorite. Lots of homeless people, police and ambulances blaring their sirens constantly. Food is very expensive and beer is overpriced.
The rooms are small but the beds are very comfortable and the cleaning staff do a good. job. The internet did not seem to work for us at the hotel. There is a little internet cafe behind the hotel on Lemon street that has great high speed internet for alot cheaper than what the hotel provides.
All in all it was a great place to stay... but not the area for an ideal relaxing holiday.

“Not Very Happy”

ResortQuest Waikiki Beach Hotel

3 of 5 stars
Saline, MI
Nov 6, 2008

This was the second hotel my husband and I stayed at during our honeymoon. We were first in Maui for 6 nights - then came here for 4. It was a bit of shock. There were so many people running around this hotel at all time, that I felt like I was on spring break. the rooms were very small - but - the bed was the most comfortable thing we've ever slept in! they did have nice flat screen tv's and a mini fridge, but you had to pay to use the safe. Upon arrival, we had someone come to our room with complimentary hawaiian cookies - which was a nice tough. *but, we were on our honeymoon, so we didn't appreciate being bothered. we had a partial ocean view room which mainly looked over the pool. there was no smoking ANYWHERE on the premisis. They had an "activities counter", which was 4 different companies all competng for your business, which was kind of weird. They had internet, but you had to pay to use the computer's.

On the plus side, there were lots of stores and restaraunts all within a stones-throw of the hotel. The transportation system was nice and we liked the free trolley that went to Hilo Hattie's. We never went to the beach while we were there b/c there were bums and homeless people everywhere begging you for money. Not to mention, it smelled like urine.

The hotel itself was just very confusing and large. The pool area wasn't good for tanning b/c the building were so high, it blocked all the sunlight. The breakfast on the beach was pretty good, but it is a misconception that you can actually eat on the beach. We normally took ours back to our room.

I would never stay at this hotel again, although we would never go back to Oahu either. the maid service never left us with enough towels, and they always would open up all the blinds after we had clearly wanted them shut! all in all - you get what you pay for!

“Great hotel”

ResortQuest Waikiki Beach Hotel

We stayed in Waikiki from August 25th until September 1st. It was our first trip to Hawaii so I did a lot of research on hotels that would be suitable for our family of 4. The location of the hotel was absolutely perfect. Everything was in walking distance for us. I loved how the beach was just across the street. You could grab a towel from your hotel room and just lie on the sand. The downtown stores and restaurants are only a few minutes away. A shuttle can pick you up right in front of the hotel to take you to Ala Moana Shopping Center for just a few dollars.

We stayed on the 24th floor. We had requested an ocean view room and it did not fail. The view was gorgeous both in the daytime and at night. The lanai, while not incredibly spacious, is not as small as other readers say it is. Two people could easily sit comfortably and watch the sunset or tourists walking below from where our room was. As for the noise level, we slept like logs. Absolutely no problem for us (as can be expected from the 24th floor). I would imagine however that the lower floors would definitely have noise issues from the Tiki Bar (by the way, overrated and way overpriced)

As we were on the 24th floor, wireless hotel was dodgy at times. Sometimes it worked, other times I just went down into the lobby to get a connection. If I had to suggest anything for the rooms is to offer a free cable to connect to internet.

When reading the reviews for the hotel I was wary of encountering the notorious elevator card problems many other previous reviewers seemed to experience. However, during our entire stay, we did not have any problems. The elevators came in a reasonable amount of time, considering we were on the 2nd highest floor in the hotel.

The room itself was a bit small in terms of walking space for the 4 of us, but it was manageable. If I had to complain about anything is perhaps the bathroom. It is very small. There is little counter space to place toiletries and whatnot. The water pressure was also lower than what I would have liked it to be. Other than that, the room was fine. Our rooms were cleaned daily with no problem, except for one day where we came back from an early day trip to take a nap, and decided to forgo room service entirely. The hotel staff were very friendly. When we requested more hand and bath towels the cleaning ladies were extremely nice and were happy to lend us more. The beds were nice and comfortable. It would have been great if rooms included a microwave to heat up food (we had tons of leftovers from dining out every night), but I believe the store downstairs in the lobby area will heat your food up for you if you buy a little something extra (newspaper, a snack or drink etc). This service was appreciated.

The breakfast wasn't anything special, but I appreciated that it was complimentary; it saved us the cost of another meal each day. It definitely wasn't bad at all though.. I can't really see why people seem to be so negative about it. It's free after all! The selection is decent, although at times I wish more items such as the soba noodles and miso soup were refilled more often. You would have to go down early to get what you want.

The pool was all right, except I noticed it was actually a colder temperature than the ocean water across the street! Sometimes at certain times in the day the pool would be covered in shade but we went during times when the sun was shining on it. Still, we enjoyed swimming in it when we wanted a change from the beach.

I could not have imagined our family enjoying our trip had we decided to stay somewhere else. I am so happy we chose this hotel for our first trip to Hawaii. I definitely can't wait to come back.
