I booked a holiday in Mauritius through Thomas Cook, and initially choose a different hotel. However, I quickly changed my hotel after reading Trip Advisor reviews, eventually selecting the Heritage in the south of the island. I'm so glad we plumped for the Heritage.

My holiday included the Wedding Package, so this was a very special holiday for me and my new wife. It lived up to all expectations. The location is ideal for a romantic holiday, and the hotel is superbly and beautifully situated on the quiet south coast of the island.

The hotel staff were great - very friendly and welcoming, but not over-familiar. We had a lot of contact with the staff as a consequence of the wedding arrangements and they couldn't have been more helpful.

I booked the half-board package, finding it hard to justify the cost of the all-inclusive package. If you want to play golf and use the Spa every day, All-Inclusive is probably a good deal, otherwise, I'm not so sure.

For a laid-back, relaxing and romantic holiday, I give the Heritage a big thumbs up.

I booked this holiday through key2 holidays who I could not fault.
We went to Mauritius as we wanted our 4 year old son's first holiday abroard to be somthing to remember. We found the Heritage to be First rate from the moment we arrived.
We stayed in room 7004 which is a ground floor beach front room. If 10m of neatly mown lawn is too far from the beach rooms 7002 & 7003 are closer.
I could not fault the quality or service at either the Balafon, Infinity Blue or Amafrooty restaurants. We never used any of the others as there was an age limit.
Our son was treated so well by all of the staff even getting a guided tour of the Balafon. It was our Anniversary on the 2nd day of our visit & wherever we went were wished a Happy Anniversary by all staff who somehow know all of the guests by name.
I cannot praise Ludvig (One of the Beach staff) highly enough who took care of our every need, even looking after my wife & son while I played Golf Du Paradis.
The Golf Du Château is a very good course and quite a stiff test.
We were on the premium package so the cost was 1500MR (£35) for club & buggy hire as the Golf was free. Also because of a deal between three Courses you can play Golf Du Paradis or Tamarin for 50euros. This has to be booked at Golf Du Château not more than 2 days prior to playing.
There is a guy on the beach called Eddie from Big Momma Tours. We used them for the Dolphin trip to Le Mourne & Bar'B'Q on Coconut island & a trip to Ile aux cerfs. Both excelent days out but it is hard to tear yourself away from the Hotel.
The only two minus points were on a South of the island tour it seemed like our Mauritours rep had deals going on with local traders and we wre given the hard sell at some locations.
The other was the Seven colour spa. Here on our consultation both my wife and myself opted for either Male or Female staff. We ended up on Nurofen for a couple of days after a massage from a male member of staff. We then stated we wanted Female only and they bent over backwards to accomodate our request. Overall we had an excelent holiday and will be returning.

We stayed in the Heritage for our honeymoon in September. What a complete waste of time and money. This place is simply an over priced package holiday that has absolutely no reason to have a 5 star status.
Firstly the staff are on the whole terrible. The main bar (Amrafrooty) has perhaps up to 10 staff running around at any one time yet you will be constantly waiting for anything up to 10 minutes for a drink. They have no clue how to run a bar either, for instance they keep about 2/3 cans of Red Bull in stock at any one time. Once these have ran out for the day (which is usually very quickly as they supply the other bars with them also) you will not get another can until the next day. Why? Because unbelievable they bring down stock from the stores every morning and despite the fact that they run out of Red Bull EVERY SINGLE DAY they never bring more down from the stores.
The room cleaning staff are equally as bad. Ours spent the entire 10 days trying to get a tip from us. It was so bad that on the last day one of the practically stalked us for a few hours, calling the room to see if we were in and hanging up.
Management (or at least those who called themselves management) were unhelpful and uninterested. I spent an hour one night trying to find someone to get a sports event shown, kept getting passed from pillar to post and despite me telling them that they did not have the correct channel I was told they did. It was never shown!
The food is only ok. Nothing better. The 7 colours restaurant is absolute rubbish though. If they spent as much time actually cooking the food as they do explaining to you what it is when they bring it to your table then you might enjoy it.
The spa is a complete waste of time. I only went twice but my wife is a spa afficianado at home and was totally unimpressed, and believe me this speaks volumes as she usually never complains about anything like this.
When you get the premium package (which is in now way premium whatsoever) you get a voucher for the Chateau restaurant. We also got another as we were on honeymoon. This was pointless as your vouchers are for the standard menu only and seeing as there are only 3 choices on it you will get the same thing twice. There is nothing whatsoever special about the setting or the food in the Chateau either.
There is absolutely no way that this place deserves a 5 star rating and believe me you can get 3/4 times more for what you it will cost you here if you went somewhere else.

We stayed at the Heritage on honeymoon in May 2007. It was absolutely the most perfect place and we would definitely go back!

A few people have mentioned the weather in Mauritius. The weather was OK, but not the best when we were there. They had a "freak storm" - the waves were right up inside the beach-side restaurant, which was a bit disconcerting, especially when the staff were running around not knowing what to do too! The rest of the time it was fairly breezy and moderate temperature (mid-high 20s). We had a couple of rainy days, but it was the start of the wet season (although we weren't told that when we booked!).

There was one good thing about it being the rainy season, the hotel was pretty quiet. We could get our beuaty treatments at almost whatever time we wanted, and never had trouble getting a lounger by the pool or sea.

The rooms were impeccably made up, but do not expect an upgrade for honeymoon. Although we were promised we would get one, and asked specifically when we arrived, we did not receive it, which was a bitter disappointment after a rough flight! The food was really nice (but the buffet was not as nice as Paradisus Rio de Oro in Cuba!)

My tip of the trip would be to hire a car (with driver) and go and see the island. Our driver kew everything, and patiently took us everywhere, waited while we walked around, and then took us somewhere else. It was incredibly good value for money!
