When going from the airport to San Jose Del Cabo, you can take a taxi, which can be expensive ($50 to $60), or a more affordable shuttle bus that takes about 8 passengers at a time ($12 to $20 per person). Counters for shuttle service are located right inside the terminals, and each shuttle stops at various hotels along the route. Ignore offers for free transfers—unless you want to wind up touring a time-share. Once you arrive in San Jose, taxis become more affordable—and easily accessible. They are not metered, however, so agree on your price before you get in.
You can also opt to rent a car at the airport. Avis, Budget, Hertz, and National all have counters open during flight arrivals. Advance reservations are suggested, but not required. Having a car can be a convenience, since there is no bus service between downtown and the beach. Or, you can just spring for a local taxi. Warning: Mexico does not except VISA card auto insurance coverage so you will have to pay for daily auto insurance. [There is some dispute whether this last sentence about Mexcio not accepting (assume they didn't mean 'except') Visa auto insurance is true. Several individuals have indicated that their Visa coverage was valid in Mexico, an experience confirmed by a Visa auto insurance program administrator.]
