Verona bus station is in front of the train station. From there buses depart for the different neighbourhoods (city buses) or for the entire “provincia” – from the northern part of lake Garda to the southern limit of Verona district. City buses are generally orange (the new ones can be green and black) the other buses are generally blue or grey. The city bus company is called AMT the other one for buses going outside Verona is called APT. You have to buy bus tickets before getting on the bus. Tickets are not sold onboard the bus. They make exceptions for night buses, but you end up paying five times the price of a ticket. Tickets are sold at the bus station, at tobacconists and newsagents all over Verona. Every time you get on a bus you have to validate your ticket in the machine you find at the entrance. Don’t forget to do that or you might get a fine There are bus stops everywhere in Verona and the service is really good during the day. Remember that timetables and bus lines are different on sundays and bank holidays (and during the night!).
If you are planning day trips to other cities outside the Verona District, at the train station you’ll find ticket offices where you can buy tickets to every destination and you can pay with cash or credit card. Before getting on the train always remember to validate your ticket in the yellow machine you see on the platforms. If you don’t do that, you’ll have to pay the entire price of the ticket a second time (they almost always check tickets on trains). If you forget to validate your ticket immediately look for the person that checks tickets on the train and tell him/her that you forgot. In this case the person in charge won’t, at his/her discretion, make you pay anything or make you pay just a small fine.
