Maui is a beautiful island, with lush green hills, waterfalls, and white sand beaches. Maui is also home to Haleakala Crater, the largest dormant volcano in the world. Most of the popular resort destinations are located either along the Kaanapali coast or to the south in Wailea. The Kaanapali coast offers long stretches of white sand beaches, shopping, golf, and an array of modest hotels to choose from. Nearby Lahaina provides many choices for dining and entertainment. Lahaina was the capital of Hawaii until 1845, and still has the atmosphere of an old whaling town. Lahaina is extremely walkable, with many small boutiques interspersed with cultural sites.
In contrast to the Kaanapali coast, Wailea beaches have a more secluded and exotic feel. Wailea offers high-end shopping, luxury hotels, golf and fabulous day spas. If you want to experience the luxury of Wailea without paying the price to stay there, consider a sunset stroll along the public beach path in Wailea. The path skirts the beach and passes through the grounds of several posh resorts.
Maui is a wonderful choice for those who want to bathe in the sun all day, as well as those who want to explore and experience new sights and adventures.
