The nightlife in Montevideo starts late and goes later.  This is due in large part to the fact that the culture of Montevideo is a Spanish-based culture in which people dine late and party in to the night.  The evening meal usually isn’t eaten until eight or nine in the evening, so drinkers do not usually get their activities going until at least ten at night.  Clubs get going sometime after midnight and go on until four or six in the morning, especially on weekends.

The club life is active and offers a wide variety of different types of live and DJ’d music to keep things interesting.  One of the most popular types of dance clubs in Montevideo are is the tango club.  Visitors seeking out this type of place will probably find that La Casa de Becho and Cuareim are the two best bets, with the former being better on weekends and the latter being preferable during the week.  Learn more about where to dance the tango at http://www.inorg.chem.ethz.ch/tango/h... .  Travelers interested in traditional Spanish culture will probably find that Mariachi club(very hard to find, Montevideo is a european oriented city and culture, nothing to do with the mexican one) bests suits their tastes, while travelers with Western-style club preferences are likely to prefer Club New York.

In addition to the traditional nightlife in Montevideo, there are also casinos.  The most popular of these is the Plaza Victoria.  It offers slot machines, gaming tables and live entertainment to keep guests playing all night long.
