With more than 300 islands in the Fiji archipelago, it's difficult to decide which one, or ones, travelers want to visit on a week or two vacation. Ideally, an intrepid traveler could spend months exploring the different island chains. But most have limited time (and budgets!), so these series of "which island is best" hopefully will help sort out what each island, or island groups, has to offer.

Traditional Fiji - Adventurous Kadavu

Kadavu will transport you back to a traditional Fijian life.  Cascading waterfalls and lush tropical forest have earned it the reputation as one of Fiji's most ruggedly beautiful islands. It is remote and truly untouched. Kadavu is home to the third largest reef in the world, the Great Astrolabe, which stretches all the way across the entire eastern side of the island and offers some of the finest diving in all of the Pacific. The reef' s outer drop-off is over a mile!

An actual group of islands, Kadavu (the main island of the group) is Fiji's fourth largest island. Its interior is truly untamed - there are no roads leading into or around the island, so all transport is via boat. Kadavu is located approximately 60 miles (100 km) south of Fiji's main island, and is only accessible by regularly scheduled flights out of the main airport (Nadi) or secondary airport (Suva).
