Brazil is known for being an incredibly festive nation full of celebrations all year, most notably the Carnival in Rio de Janeiro. Foz do Iguacu is a major tourist destination and serves up a healthy menu of festivals as well, including their own Carnival in February but of course, nearby Curitiba has a more elaborate Carnival and Rio and Sao Paulo even better.

One of the biggest events of the year is the Annual International Dourado Fishing Tournament of which, the dates vary sometimes in the month of March. Competitors come from all over the world to compete for the biggest and best Dorado or (dourado) fish. Aside from the fishing portion of the contest, there is also a cooking contest that was a recent addition. Whoever can cook the best tasting Dorado wins a separate prize.

May sees "Fenartec" a celebration of the city's multiculturism.

Christmas and New Year's, particularly the latter are also great times to visit the city. Many Brazilians, and groups of people from bordering Paraguay and Argentina come to the city to count down to the new year with a huge party. Major Christian, Muslilm, and Buddhist holidays are all also recognized and celebrated in this diverse city.
