Tamarindo, located in the Guanacaste province of Costa Rica, naturally has a tropical climate with an ongoing ocean breeze. Costa Rica is only nine degrees above the equator, so you can bet on warm weather all-year round. However, this usually means that there is a wet and dry season, the wet season being over the Northern Hemisphere's winter. Tamarindo however, is one of the driest areas in Costa Rica and is labeled as being a "tropical dry forest", the only one of this type in Central America. Therefore, what is the wet season for most of the Central America region, is called the "green season" in Tamarindo as it is green, but not wet. This ideal micro-climate has made it the tourist hot spot that it is today...well, that and the amazing beaches.
With the major resorts that have gone up in Tamarindo, day activities and nightlife exists all year round. If you are a classical music fan however, you should plan your trip during the Tamarindo Music Festival, which takes place throughout the month of August. The festival takes over several venues and ignites the city with orchestra symphonies, operettes, and beachside concerts.
Reggae music in Tamarindo is a popular one and the Reggae Festival Guide lists what concerts are going on throughout the world for reggae music. Tamarindo is noted as a destination for various concerts. Check their website for updates.
