Sports, tours and water related activities are abundant on the island but their availability and location are ever changing.  For example the Quicksilver Surf Camp (ages 6 - 16) can be at Playa Guacuco one season and on a different beach the next season.  Horseback riding which used to only be available in Macanau and Playa el Agua are now available in El Salado and Loma de Guerra.

A guide on the current happenings on the island is in production and  tourists and locals will be informed as soon as it is available. In the meantime, for the most up--to-date information on activities on Margarita Island, visit the forum here on TripAdvisor.  Postings on the Forum will be made regularly for the benefit of tourists and locals alike.

In the next section, is additional information on the island. There are a variety of ways to get active on Margarita Island, thanks is large part to her variety of activities:

Biking

Try renting a bike and exploring the island. Between the paved and off-road options, biking here can be a lot of fun. To bike in the mountains, your best bet is the Macanao Peninsula. It should be noted, however, that biking on the Island is not for the faint at heart, as it can become extremely hot, and distances between towns and attractions can seem enormous in the heat.

Check with your hotel for details on the nearest and cheapest place to rent.  No Wind No Cry can help you out with renting a mountain bike. This company is located in El Yaque, and operates guided mountain bike tours of the island.  Customers are provided with a bike, helmet, all safety related gear (extra inner tubes etc), water, and transportation.

Scooters

No Wind No Cry also has scooters for rent.  Touring by scooter is a fun way to see and experience the island.  Scooters can be rented for one day, 3 days or for a week.  For the fee of US$35.00, you will have the use of a 150cc, two-seater scooter, complete with helmets, a lock, and a map of the island.

Sailing

If you want to enjoy the tranquil blue waters, spend a day sailing. You can get a sailboat for just a day cruise, or for a multi-day charter. Expect a day tour to cost somewhere between $40 and $100, and for multi-day charters between $100-$200 per person (usually a minimum of four people applies). For more information,  visit the website of  Explore Yachts. They can also give you information about fishing, so check them out if you want to spend some time catching tuna, marlin, sailfish, or dorado.

Surfing

Another way to experience the beautiful ocean waves is by surfing. For some of the best, check out  Playa Parguito, south of Playa El Agua, and El Tirano, further south.

Jeep Tours

Get a full day’s tour in a Jeep 4x4 for an excellent day of sightseeing from $40-$65 per person at  Walter's Tours.

Horseback Riding

CabaCaribe , located in Loma de Guerra on the way to Playa el Agua, owned by Larry & Anita has a great selection of Venezuelan and American horses or try the Cabatucan Ranch . Your hotel or the tourist bureau, can give you information on horseback riding all over the island. This can be a fun and beautiful way to explore.

Windsurfing

On the southern end of the Island you will find plenty of opportunities for windsurfing. Try one of the three following for your best bets: El Yaque Paradise, El Yaque Motion or Casa Nora.

Golf

The Isla Margarita Golf Club is the only current golf course on the Island. This is not a known tourist destination for golf, so if you can’t go a day without perfectly kept greens and a challenging course, the Island, and this course, are not for you.

Scubadiving

About 40km in front of the coast Venezuelas, straight ahead of Puerto la Cruz and Cumana Margarita Island is surrounded by the islands Coche, Cubagua and Los Frailes - some good places to go scuba diving! You will find dive trips from 60-100.-$US at  Scubadiving Margarita.
